"Hat off my master, the teacher is coming," – with these words addressed Manana Gharishvili, head of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization, to the delegates of the reporting-election conference. Leader of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization welcomed the audience and proudly stated that ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze's participation was a clear proof of the union's high responsibility for each member, giving the best opportunity to identify the priorities of the organization. On June 21 of current year, 33 delegates attended the reporting-election conference of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization. The invited guests participated in the conference: ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze, Vice-President Natia Kordzadze, Deputy Chairman of Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC) Eter Matureli, Head of ESFTUG’s Khashuri branch organization Inezza Elisashvili, Head of Borjomi Educational Resource Center Izolda Lomidze, head of Borjomi Preschool Institutions Union Nino Bendeliani, Borjomi Municipality Council members and MPs and principal of Akhaldaba public school Marina Lomidze. "All intellectuals are able to defend their rights through their trade union. ESFTUG gives its members opportunity to be active, which is the ground to improve their legal, professional, labor and socio-economic conditions. ESFTUG is the largest public organization in Georgia, which cares for the civic consciousness and confidence building of the employees, "- said Manana Gharishvili. The report of the head of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization noted the years of challenges facing the organization and the achievements achieved in the modern stage. "In recent years, ESFTUG is strong and numerous, which is primarily a merit of ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze’s strategy." Manana Gharishvili emphasized Maia Kobakhidze’s as personal qualities, as well as her leader skills and high responsibilities towards the work. "The activities of the ESFTUG’s President comes from the heart. Her sincerity, collegiality and constructive cooperation gives the leaders of the branch organizations more stimulus and possibilities to carry out activities more effective at the local level, "- said Manana Gharishvili, leader of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization. All the Trade Union activities carried out by Manana Gharishvili for union members, during last four years, were described in detail in her report. "The recognized rights of the trade union are the prerequisites of quality education! Our organization has taken a very hard way to secure the fundamental values of the rights of workers and trade unions in educational institutions in 2010-2012 - noted the speaker and presented the organization’s real possibilities and achievements to the audience in detail. The relationship between social partners has improved, not only the labor and legal conditions of the employees, but also the rights of the trade union are recognized and protected. During the last 4 years, Professional Development Training Seminars have been implemented for members of ESFTUG's Borjomi branch organization. It is noteworthy that a close, collaborative environment was created between the head and members of the ESFTUG's Borjomi branch organization for the purpose of reviewing the proposals initiated by the ESFTUG, discussing the draft amendments in the general education system and intensive awareness of the members. ESFTUG’s Borjomi leader Manana Gharishvili thanked Union headquarters, especially noted the legal department’s head’s Ucha Bakuradze’s activities for legal assistance of members, his involvement in relations between employers and employees for regulate their relationships recognized by the legislation. Head of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization assessed positively and democratic participation of ESFTUG’s primary organization’s leaders as observers in the election of the public school board. In her opinion, it would be better, in future, to elect the union leaders in the Board of the schools, which will contribute to improving the quality of independence of the Board. Members of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization have actively participated in the joint seminars of the Ministry of Education and Science and ESFTUG, and the speaker noted that members request continuation of subjective conferences in such formats. The speaker talked about the positive tendencies of cooperation with the Borjomi local self-government. Within the reporting period, two-month project for training of preschool institutions was implemented within the frames of cooperation, in particular co-financing of professional development trainings. Manana Gharishvili expressed hope that the reform of the pre-school institutions will be improved in cooperation with the needs of the employees. The head of ESFTUG's Borjomi branch organization focused on low salaries of preschool institutions’ employees, which is one of the priorities of trade union activity and she demanded that local government of Borjomi Municipality takes care to create decent labor conditions, to implement various projects for appreciate the contribution of the teachers. During the last four years, different kind of jubilee, charity actions were held in Borjomi and honored and merciful union members were awarded with diplomas and symbolic gifts for their activities. Leader of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi regional organization noted that in the future, more funds will be allocated for promoting ESFTUG’s activities, for trade union teaching and for increasing public awareness of employees. Manana Gharishvili, among the projects implemented under her leadership, outlined the project under which the pupils, teachers and parents of the village Khurcha Kindergarten (Gali region) were awarded the Daba Tsaghveri passes free of charge. The project is funded by Borjomi regional municipality and the union of preschool institutions according to the petition of ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization. The guests were hosted by the Daba Tsaghveri Kindergarten. At the end of the meeting the speaker noted that the "yellow trade union’s" propaganda was in the public schools of Borjomi, but employees of public schools and pre-school institutions demonstrated their confidence in ESFTUG. Constructive cooperation with social partners gives the hope that the trade union involvement will become stronger and will succeed in the benefit of the employees. "We had overcome many problems with solidarity. The country should prioritize the care of the teacher's dignity, care for professional development, improving socio-economic conditions, and appointing a deserved and dignified pension. Hundreds and more teachers are successful in academic year. Recognition and introduction to the public will increase the teacher's authority that will improve the quality of education, "- Manana Gharishvili, the head of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization has completed her report. Izolda Lomidze, Head of the Borjomi Regional Educational Resource Center, stressed the importance of Manana Gharishvili’s activity at the regional level, focusing on her efforts to help all colleagues whether she is a member of the trade union. Izolda Lomidze talked about the enthusiasm of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi regional organization’s leader in order to inform the Borjomi teachers how overcome the challenges of the reform. The delegates of the conference listened to the ESFTUG’s president's report, they got the detailed information about the trade union activities and the results obtained in favor of employees of public schools and preschoolers, discussed the issues relevant for them and assessed the trade union activities positively. Borjomi N: 1 public school teacher, active member of ESFTUG Lia Gulikashvili recalled the period when ESFTUG started to restore the right to trade union membership. "I remember how we went to all villages and all schools in Borjomi, together with Manana Gharishvili, when the trade union rights were restored, but the clean action square did not meet the organization, we had a lot of difficulties and struggles with violations." Lia Gulikashvili said that all members should be given an opportunity to participate in trade union seminars "to better understand what the trade union does for them and what each member should do for union." Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation Eter Murelian gave a special and highly esteemed assessment of the decision of ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze to report each delegate of the ESFTUG’s branch organizations' annual conferences on the last four-year activities, as it is an effective means of informing the members. According to the ESFTUG’s regulations, the head of the organization will send the report to the congress and only 3-4 delegates from Borjomi will attend the congress determined by the quota. Ms. Eter Maturiel talked about the role and achievements of trade unions at the international and local levels, about the initiatives presented to the government in favor of the employers and the women's rights and urged the teachers to become more active. The honorary guest of the conference, Inaza Elisashvili, the head of the ESFTUG’s Khashuri branch organization, said that the teacher is responsible for the protection of democratic values of the country and it is surprising when the teacher becomes a member of an uncertain organization under the influence of false promises. " Ineza Elisashvili in spite of the activities of the president of the ESFTUG noted that, her work is filled with love of the teacher's profession and comes from the heart. Mrs. Ineza talked to the conference delegates about the principles of democratic governance that Maia Kobakhidze has established in the organization. "Each meeting of the executive council members is mutually beneficial and mutual respect, with consideration of the mechanisms for effective work and sharing of mutual experiences. All this, gives each leader the power to "remove mountains" at the regional level. Maia Kobakhidze creates amazing cooperation, love relationships and support environment. Akaki Tsereteli said: "That does not burn ... does not shine." Every member, every leader is happy to be in the presence of Maia Kobakhidze because we feel that our word is worth the price. You are a solid wall of our organization ... You give us a direction how to work on the places," – addressed the leader of the ESFTUG’s Khashuri branch organization the ESFTUG’s president. At the Borjomi regional organization conference, the election was held with open ballot. The delegates of the conference elected Manana Gharishvili as a head of the ESFTUG’s Borjomi branch organization unanimously for the next 4 years. They defined the Borjomi local council and elected the delegates of the ESFTUG’s IX congress. In the final part of the Conference, ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze has been given a diploma with the name of Borjomi regional organization - "For Love of Teachers". ESFTUG’s President Maia Kobakhidze and leader of Borjomi branch organization Manana Gharishvili presented symbolic gifts to primary organizations’ leaders for “Successful pedagogic work and for the special merits distributed in the trade union activities”. Active members and meritorious teachers were also awarded with diplomas and the social partners were awarded with diplomas for "protection of democratic values and social partnership".
